Hilltop Highs, Fancy Feasts, and Alpaca Audacity – Cusco Sign-Off!

Hilltop Highs, Fancy Feasts, and Alpaca Audacity – Cusco Sign-Off!

Final day in Cusco, and I'm equal parts "already?!" and "one more pisco sour!" I kicked off with a heart-pumping hike up to San Cristóbal Church, perched like a crown on the hillside. The path winds through eucalyptus groves and adobe neighborhoods—panting optional, views mandatory. At the top, the whitewashed church glows against the Andes, but the real star? Panoramic sweeps of Cusco's red roofs tumbling into valleys. I timed it for sunset: golden light bathing the city in honey hues, bells tolling like a farewell serenade. Entry's cheap (10 soles), reward's infinite.

San Cristóbal sunset – Cusco from the clouds!

Descending with wobbly legs (hike + altitude = adventure tax), I treated myself to dinner at Pachapapa, a cozy hacienda spot specializing in Andean roasts. The vibe? Rustic lanterns, clay ovens crackling—total romance for a solo traveler like me. I went bold with grilled alpaca: lean, gamey slices (think venison meets lamb) charred to juicy perfection, served with huacatay herb sauce, roasted potatoes, and Andean corn. The meat's tender with an earthy sweetness, spiced just right—no chewiness, all flavor pop. Paired with anticuchos (skewered heart—adventurous and delish), it was my "brave the unknown" moment. Ethical sourcing here means happy llamas (er, alpacas)!

Grilled alpaca – bold bite, zero regrets!
